My work has been published in American Ethnologist, Political and Legal Anthropology Review, and Social Politics. I am currently completing a book manuscript entitled Kinship Against Violence: Women’s Rights and Dilemmas of Interdependence in Jaipur, based on over 20 months of ethnographic research at family counseling centers in Jaipur, the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan.

Future research projects include an exploration of the history of family counseling and other counseling practices in north India; theoretical work on kinship and gender as categories of analysis in both anthropology and development, and a project examining the effects of gender-based affirmative action (or “reservations”) in India’s village-level elective bodies, called panchayat in Hindi.
